9 June 2011 - Green Power Panay issued "Order of Finality" granting the conversion of land from Agricultural to Industrial pourposes enables the construction of GPPPI's two 17.5 MW multi-fuelled Biomass Power Plant totaling 35 MW of clean, renewable energy that will supply electricity sufficient for 140,000 households whilst providing employment to Iloilo and alleviate an estimated 14,000 out of poverty.
The "Order of Finality" granted by the Republic of the Philippines Department of Agrarian Reform (Agrarian Reform Regional Office 6) regarding the GPPPI plant site is the last license required before construction may commence on the site located within Barangay Cabalabaguan in the Municipality of Mina, Province of Iloilo on the Island of Panay. The project will be realized through the construction and operation of two 17.5 MW multi-fuelled Biomass Power Plants the first of which will commence construction this year. GPPPI have received all other licenses including their Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the two plants and have completed the building of their office complex and biomass laboratory in Barangay Cabalabaguan. The development of civil engineering, roads and other infrastructure to support the projects is ongoing.
The first 17.5 MW biomass plant will provide an estimated 1,700 jobs to the local community within the sustainable biomass supply chain, deliver an estimated $ 10 million US Dollars to the community in the first year of operation and help mitigate Climate Change through the use of corn straw, rice straw, cane tops and leaves as well as other biomass that are all currently burnt or left in the field to rot causing health hazards to the community.
